The Rákosmenti Csicsergő Kindergarten is located in the centre of the 17th district of Budapest. Founded and built in 1987, it houses four groups, accommodating 100 children in total. Adopting the standards and disciplines of our unique pedagogical programme, we focus on the age-specific attributes of children and new societal expectations, while meeting the demands of our partners.

Our overall objective is to bring out the most from the potential of each and every individual child during their years spent here, so that they may grow and develop in a harmonious environment, adhering to the values of Hungary and the European Union. In our educational system and activities, we strive to place major emphasis on broadening the children’s knowledge and familiarity with folk- and national culture, nurturing Hungarian traditions, inclusivity and respect towards one another in a positive manner.

Our teaching staff aims to draw inspiration from the past to meet the challenges of the present and the future. The curriculum of our pedagogical programme is based on free play, which is supported by an orderly schedule and the dive rsity that only mixed age group classes can offer. The curriculum during the semester is project-based, creatively combining general education, arts, activities and music. Environmental awareness is also a key priority of our staff, pledged towards understanding the value of nature. We have been awarded the title of ‘Green Kindergarten’ three times.

Fővárosi Önkormányzat Kindergarten | Official Nursery of the Municipality of Budapest

About Kindergarten

Our nursery has been functioning as a professional workhouse since 1911 based on the traditions of the Hungarian early childhood education. We have been performing our predecessor's dual role since in our current building since 1999.

Firstly, the education of 3 to 7 years old children. Secondarily, as a voluntary task we provide vocational training for nursery teachers from the capital and from nation-wide, we also assist them in their professional development.

Our nursery is operated by the Municipality of Budapest. Children are split into five groups in our institute (infant, middle, pre-school, mixed age). There are 20 to 23 children in each group.

Our nursery was awarded in 2013 with the“Forever green nursery”title, and we are also home for the Environment and Nature Protecting Nursery Educational Centre “Kekcinke” - Tomtit.

Our garden is a ‘Bird-friendly garden’ since 2012.

We are part of the national network of ‘Healthier Nurseries.’

The purposes and tasks of our basic functions are regulated by the National Curriculum for the Early Years Education which is reflected in our Local Educational Agenda in a unique way - as expressed also in the title: Playworld Nursery Program

We provide a nursery environment to the children where the ‘play’ has its right place consistent with its important role.

We design the activities to help the children’s development, yet they would experience these in a playful way:
- During play activities we let them discover and like our environment
- We provide various opportunities for them to act their happiness, sorrow, desire
- They can playfully, freely, happily indulge in aesthetic impressions
- Activities focusing on comprehensive skills can be acquired in a fun way and ease them into the start of their school years.

We would like to send all our children in the nursery to schools which best suit their abilities.

“Above all, let the child play” (Farkas Bolyai)

Our nursery also accommodates children with a delayed speech development, they are integrated into the group (a maximum of 2 children per group).

A remarkable part of our programme is a modern approach to the relationship between the nursery and the family who share care. The rights of the family education and its priority is being respected by the nursery teachers just as parents can trust in the nursery teachers’ professionalism.

There is a comprehensive, museological collection showcasing the history of nursery education available in our nursery.
